Emergency response operations continue for fourth day after Russian strike on Vyshneve

Emergency crews have been dealing with the aftermath of a Russian attack on Vyshneve, near Kyiv, for the fourth consecutive day after secondary explosions occurred at the site.

Quote: "Over 300 emergency workers and 106 pieces of equipment are continuously deployed at the site. They are continuing search and rescue operations and recovery operations, surveying the area and providing every possible assistance to local residents."

Background:

  • Ukraine's General Staff said that the facility in Vyshneve where secondary explosions occurred on 6 July is neither managed by nor subordinate to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
  • Russia launched a large-scale combined strike on Ukraine using attack drones as well as air-, land- and sea-launched missiles of various types on the night of 5-6 July. Ukrainian air defences downed 363 out of 419 aerial assets, while 29 ballistic missiles and 18 attack drones struck 34 locations.
  • Nearly 500 residents were evacuated from Vishneve because of the risk of a secondary explosion.
  • Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said he expects the Security Service of Ukraine and the intelligence agencies to establish in detail what happened in Vyshneve.
  • Mykola Kalashnyk, Head of Kyiv Oblast Military Administration, reported that nine people had been killed and 58 injured as a result of the Russian attack on Kyiv Oblast.
