Moscow claims attack by more than 400 drones, strikes reported in Moscow Oblast

Russian authorities claimed on the morning of 19-20 July that more than 400 drones had targeted Moscow Oblast overnight. Meanwhile, social media users reported strikes and fires across Moscow Oblast, including at the Wildberries Koledino logistics centre in Podolsk.

Details: Russian pro-war Telegram channels reported that a missile threat had been declared in Moscow Oblast. Residents of the Russian capital were also warned about possible internet disruptions.

According to Russian sources, missile threats were also declared in Yaroslavl, Tver, Vladimir, Ivanovo, Novgorod, Vologda, Belgorod, Kursk, Lipetsk, Kaluga, Voronezh, Tambov and Tula oblasts.

At around 03:00, and again shortly afterwards, Sobyanin claimed that 27 drones "heading towards Moscow" had been shot down. As always, he gave no information about the consequences, saying only that "emergency services are working at the sites where debris fell".

Photos and videos showing strikes in Moscow Oblast were later posted on social media.

Update: At 03:37, Sobyanin claimed that another 11 drones heading towards Moscow had been intercepted.

Russia's Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) announced temporary restrictions on operations at Moscow's airports.

In total, Russian authorities claimed that 79 drones had been shot down on their approach to Moscow.

According to Telegram channels, drones struck the Wildberries logistics complex in Koledino in Moscow Oblast, one of the company's largest and oldest distribution centres.

Local residents also reported that drones were attacking the Wildberries Koledino logistics centre in Podolsk in Moscow Oblast.

Update: Later in the morning, Sobyanin claimed that, according to Russian authorities' estimates, more than 400 drones had targeted Moscow Oblast between Sunday evening and Monday morning.

Quote from Sobyanin: "From 20:30 until 05:00, more than 400 enemy drones flew towards Moscow Oblast. Most of them were destroyed by air defence systems at a considerable distance from the capital. Eighty-five UAVs were destroyed while approaching Moscow."

Details: Russian pro-war bloggers described the drone attack on Moscow Oblast as "one of the largest in recent years".

According to an Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) analysis by Astra, an oil depot in Podolsk in Moscow Oblast caught fire following the drone attack.

Astra added that residents of Moscow Oblast had reported numerous explosions and fires on the night of 19-20 July.

Astra later reported that, based on its analysis, a warehouse at the Yuzhnye Vorota industrial complex in Domodedovo, Moscow Oblast, had also been on fire after the attack.

Background: Moscow and Moscow Oblast came under a large-scale drone attack on the night of 17-18 July. Fires broke out at an oil depot in Noginsk and a Wildberries logistics centre in Elektrostal, while Russian authorities reported that dozens of people were affected.
