FBI Director is planning visit to Russia – Politico

Kash Patel, Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, is planning to visit Russia in October.

Details: Politico said Patel could travel to Russia on 14-15 October. He is expected to visit Moscow first, followed by St Petersburg. However, the schedule may still change.

Patel is expected to be hosted by Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB). It remains unclear whether the US official will meet Russian leader Vladimir Putin. The purpose of the visit has also not been disclosed. The White House referred journalists' questions about the trip to the FBI. Neither the FBI nor the US Department of Justice has commented on the report.

According to Politico, the last FBI director to visit Russia was Robert Mueller in 2013. Mueller later led the investigation into Russia's alleged interference in the 2016 US presidential election and possible links to Donald Trump's presidential campaign.
