"Peace with dignity": Zelenskyy discusses reinvigoration of diplomacy with Trump envoys

The Office of the President of Ukraine has confirmed that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has held a phone call with US presidential envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

Update: Describing the conversation as "good" and "important", Zelenskyy emphasised that Ukraine needs "peace with dignity", something it has been long ready for.

He added that the Ukrainian and American teams remain in close contact, particularly to follow up on everything discussed in the call.

The Ukrainian president also thanked Witkoff and Kushner for their efforts in the name of peace, and expressed gratitude to Donald Trump and the American people for their unwavering support.

Details: Earlier, Lytvyn confirmed to the press that Zelenskyy had "just finished" a phone call with Witkoff and Kushner.

Axios correspondent Barak Ravid reported the conversation earlier, citing his sources, and said the discussion was on how to resume "diplomatic efforts for ending the war".

Background:

• US involvement in negotiations regarding Russia's war against Ukraine has largely stalled since the start of the US and Israeli war against Iran. A visit to Kyiv that Trump's envoys were expected to make "after Easter" never took place.
• On 2 July, Zelenskyy reported that over the previous two days, talks had taken place between National Security and Defence Council Secretary Rustem Umierov and US President Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner.
• The past few weeks have seen a noticeable shift in the tone of the US president and his administration towards Ukraine. A notable breakthrough was Trump's pledge to grant Ukraine licences to produce Patriot systems.
