Details: Zelenskyy noted that the late Senator Lindsey Graham had worked on the new sanctions bill for a long time.
"Lindsey [Graham] was deeply involved in this bill. I think President Trump's idea to combine it with sanctions against Iran – we support this idea. It's a very good idea," he said.
According to Zelenskyy, this could unite different groups in Congress around the bill, as some may support anti-Iran sanctions while others may back anti-Russia measures.
Background:
- US President Donald Trump has again called on Congress to include provisions on Iran in the bipartisan sanctions bill against Russia, co-authored by the late Senator Lindsey Graham – suggesting that this would have been his preference.
- Trump had previously expressed a desire to add Iran-related provisions to the bill and signaled readiness to sign it.
- There have been calls in the Senate to fast-track the bill without additional changes. According to media reports, it already has support from more than 60 senators, which would ensure its passage.
- Earlier, the Senate revealed details of the updated version of the bill.
