Trump calls for Iran provisions in Russia sanctions bill because "that's what Lindsey wanted to do"

US President Donald Trump has again called on Congress to include Iran-related provisions in a bipartisan Russia sanctions bill co-authored by the late Senator Lindsey Graham, claiming that Graham would have wanted this.

Details: Trump on 19 July again expressed his wish for Congress to include Iran-related provisions in the Russia sanctions bill initiated by Senators Lindsey Graham and Richard Blumenthal, claiming that the late Graham would have wanted this.

"Republicans should add Iran to the Russian Sanctions Bill. That's what Lindsey wanted to do, and it was going to happen. IMPORTANT!!!," Trump wrote.

Trump had previously expressed his wish for Iran-related provisions to be added to the bill, while signalling his readiness to sign it.

There have been calls in the Senate for the bill's swift consideration without additional amendments. According to media reports, the bill already has the support of more than 60 senators, which guarantees its passage.

Details of the updated version of the bill were revealed in the Senate earlier this week.
