Putin increases size of Russian forces for second time this summer

Kremlin ruler Vladimir Putin has signed a decree increasing the authorised strength of the Armed Forces of Russia by 25,000 personnel – the second such decision since the start of summer.

Quote from the ministry: "The authorised strength of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation has been set at 2,426,130 personnel, including 1,535,000 servicemen. The relevant decree was signed by Putin."

Details: According to the decree, this decision was taken in connection with the creation of military construction units.

The decree also sets the maximum staffing level of the central apparatus of the Russian Ministry of Defence at 13,400 personnel (excluding security and building maintenance staff), including 4,930 federal civil servants.

The document will come into force on 1 August.

Background:

Putin signed a similar decree on 12 June.
That document set the authorised strength of the Russian armed forces at 2,399,130 personnel, including 1,510,000 servicemen.
