Drone attack reported in Russian capital, fire breaks out at factory outside Moscow – photos, videos

Russian authorities have reported a drone attack on the morning of 28 July, claiming that dozens of drones were "heading towards Moscow". A fire has broken out at a factory in Moscow Oblast following the attack.

Details: Sobyanin initially reported that 12 drones heading towards Moscow had been shot down.

He later said that another 21 drones had been intercepted.

Meanwhile, Rosaviatsiya announced restrictions and temporary suspensions of operations at Moscow's Vnukovo, Domodedovo and Zhukovsky airports.

Photos and videos circulating on social media showed drones flying over the area and smoke rising in Moscow Oblast.

Reports in social media said the target may have been a tyre recycling plant in the town of Chekhov in Moscow Oblast, which processes used tyres and produces reclaimed rubber and rubber crumb.

There were also reports of another strike on Wildberries warehouses in the village of Koledino. Wildberries is Russia's largest online retailer.

Update: After 05:00, Sobyanin claimed that another 12 and then 28 drones had been shot down while heading towards Moscow.

According to his figures, the total number of intercepted drones reached 73, before later increasing to 81.

Vorobyov later confirmed that a fire had broken out at the Chekhov tyre recycling plant. It was allegedly caused by the "fall of a UAV".

Vorobyov also claimed that dozens of drones had been shot down over Domodedovo, Podolsk, Ramenskoye and Kolomna.

At 06:10, Rosaviatsiya announced that restrictions at Vnukovo and Domodedovo airports had been lifted.

Sobyanin later claimed that 390 drones had targeted the Moscow district between the evening of 27 July and 06:30 on 28 July.
