The bilateral meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump at the White House has concluded.

The meeting between the leaders of Ukraine and the US took place behind closed doors, without media representatives present. Neither president made any public statements.

Background:

  • Zelenskyy said earlier that his priorities for the visit were to secure capabilities to counter ballistic missiles and strengthen strategic cooperation between Ukraine and the US.
  • Zelenskyy's spokesperson Serhii Nykyforov said that following the talks with Trump, the Ukrainian leader is scheduled to meet Finnish President Alexander Stubb at 11:00 Washington time (18:00 Kyiv time).
  • At 12:30 (19:30 Kyiv time), he will attend the National Farewell Ceremony for the late Senator Lindsey Graham. At 18:00 Washington time (01:00 Kyiv time), Zelenskyy is due to meet with senators who co-sponsored Lindsey Graham's bill on secondary sanctions against Russia, as well as other members of Congress.
  • On Tuesday, a bipartisan group of US senators announced they have reached agreement on the long-awaited bill that would enable Trump to impose additional restrictions on major buyers of Russian energy resources, as well as on Iran.
