A car exploded while in motion in Odesa on 28 July, killing the driver at the scene and leaving a female passenger hospitalised.

Details: Police received a report of a car explosion on Nebesnoi Sotni Avenue near the corner of Yaroslav Mudryi Avenue on the evening of 28 July.

An investigative team from the local police unit, forensic specialists and bomb disposal experts arrived at the scene.

Police say they will determine the legal classification of the incident once all the circumstances are established.

Traffic is currently disrupted on that section of road in Odesa. Drivers have been asked to take this information into account when planning their route.

Background: This was the second car explosion in Odesa within 24 hours. On the morning of 28 July, a car exploded in the courtyard of a residential building, injuring the driver. The Security Service of Ukraine classified the incident as a terrorist attack. Ukrainska Pravda sources in law enforcement said the car belonged to a Ukrainian service member.
