Zelenskyy and Polish PM in Lublin discuss Washington talks, investments and air defence

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has said that during his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Lublin they discussed the outcome of Zelenskyy's visit to Washington, Polish investment in Ukraine and cooperation on missile defence.

Details: Tusk and Zelenskyy met in Lublin on 29 July as Zelenskyy was returning to Ukraine from his visit to the United States, where he met US President Donald Trump and senators.

Zelenskyy briefed Tusk on the course of the talks in Washington.

Tusk also reported they discussed Polish investment in Ukraine, cooperation on missile defence and support for Kyiv in its fight against Russian aggression.

Polish media reported that the meeting between Tusk and Zelenskyy lasted about an hour. The two leaders did not hold a joint press conference afterwards.

It was Zelenskyy's first visit to Poland since tensions between Kyiv and Warsaw flared over his decision to name a military unit after heroes of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA).

For reference: The Ukrainian Insurgent Army, or UPA, was a nationalist paramilitary organisation that fought for Ukrainian independence during and after World War II, primarily against Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. Poland believes that the UPA was responsible for what it considers the genocide of Poles during the Volyn (Volhynia) tragedy, a series of events that led to the ethnic cleansing of the Polish and Ukrainian populations in 1943. The tragedy was part of a long-standing rivalry between Ukrainians and Poles in what is now Ukraine's west.
