Explosions heard in Poland's Lublin Voivodeship, crater found in field

People in Poland's Lublin Voivodeship reported hearing explosions during Russia's latest attack on Ukraine on the night of 29-30 July, and a crater was discovered in a field. Firefighters and law enforcement officers have been dispatched to the scene.

Details: WP recalled that an early warning system had been activated overnight in Lublin and across the Lublin Voivodeship: air-raid warnings were issued.

It later emerged that firefighters are securing the area around the village of Tarnawa-Kolonia near Lublin, where an unidentified object is believed to have fallen.

Emergency services received reports from several nearby settlements.

"People reported explosions and loud noises in the sky. We're out there checking it out. The search is being conducted at the border between Biłgoraj and Lublin provinces," the Lublin Provincial Fire Service told Wirtualna Polska.

WP also reported that people in the village of Targowiska heard an extremely loud explosion, with windows shaking in some homes.

"Bloody hell. (…) In all our lives, we've never heard anything like it. The windows nearly shattered," a local man said.

He added that the impact shook the entire house as if it were an earthquake and sounded like a bomb.

Another witness described a similar experience, saying the roar was so loud that residents immediately ran outside.

Locals said the sound appeared to come from an area of fields and forests. Some speculated that a missile or drone may have crashed there.

A military helicopter later appeared over the site and numerous fire service units and police officers were also deployed.

Because of the difficult terrain, emergency services began searching the area using quad bikes. During the operation, they discovered a crater in a field located between forested areas.

Police cordoned off the site and are awaiting the arrival of military personnel, who are expected to examine the area thoroughly and determine what caused the crater.

Nearby roads have been closed and access to the area has been restricted.
