Quote: "Terror is one of the methods the Russians use to wage war, and a sign that they are failing to achieve their political goal through military means.
Today's attempt is proof that we are doing everything right and effectively destroying the enemy on the battlefield."
Details: Obolienskyi thanked everyone who had shown concern and support.
"The attempt is a sign of the enemy's fear. And our retaliation will make them fear us even more," the commander added.
Background:
- President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that an assassination attempt on Obolienskyi was foiled on 31 July.
- Ukrainska Pravda sources said that a 69-year-old man, who is believed to have been preparing the attempt on Obolenskyi's life, was detained near a barbershop on 31 July. According to the sources, the attacker's weapon failed to fire. The detained man had approached the commander from behind.
- The attacker claims that Russian handlers posed as officers of the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) and convinced him that Obolienskyi was a "traitor".
- In the evening, the SSU and National Police officially announced the detention of a "potential killer" and said that formal notice of suspicion is being prepared against the man.
