Drones attack oil refinery in Russia's Saratov and airfield in Engels – video

Several regions of Russia came under attack on the night of 1-2 August. An oil refinery was hit in Saratov, and an airfield was struck in Engels.

Details: Local residents reported explosions in Saratov and Engels.

Early reports indicate that fires broke out simultaneously at two sites on the refinery's territory. A video posted by monitoring Telegram channels shows a bright glow above the industrial zone.

The governor of Saratov Oblast later confirmed the drone strikes, reporting damage to civilian infrastructure in both Saratov and Engels.

The Saratov oil refinery, operated by Rosneft, is one of Russia's oldest refineries. As of 2023, its refining capacity stood at 4.8 million tonnes.

Explosions were also heard in the area of the Engels-2 military airfield.

Local residents posted photos and videos that appear to show the moment of a powerful explosion on the territory of the airbase.

• Drones attacked a Wildberries sorting hub in the Russian city of Penza on the night of 29-30 July, triggering a large fire. Wildberries is Russia's largest online retailer.
