Another blackout recorded at Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant
The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) lost its external power supply once again on 4 August and was forced to operate on diesel generators for about an hour. These generators serve as a backup source to ensure nuclear and radiation safety.

Details: Energoatom reported that the power supply to the plant was restored at 14:20.
A similar situation occurred just a few days earlier, on 1 August, Energoatom noted.
Quote: "This is the 12th blackout at the ZNPP since the beginning of 2026 and the 24th since the start of Russia's occupation of the plant. In other words, half of all blackouts during the occupation have occurred in 2026.
Each loss of external power poses a direct threat to nuclear and radiation safety. For Europe's largest nuclear power plant to depend on diesel generators is unacceptable and further demonstrates the critical risks caused by the illegal occupation of the ZNPP."
Energoatom added that only the return of the plant to full Ukrainian control and to its lawful operator – Energoatom – can guarantee its safe operation.
