EU approves new sanctions on Russia in response to massive strikes on Ukraine

The European Union approved new sanctions against Russia on Friday 7 August in response to the recent wave of large-scale Russian strikes on Ukraine.

Details: Kallas said that every new attack on Ukraine gives Europe another reason to increase pressure on Russia.

According to Kallas, the new sanctions target five individuals linked to Russia's military-industrial complex.

"With its army stalled on the battlefield, Moscow is further escalating its campaign of terror against civilians. The EU must continue to intensify pressure on Russia until Moscow ends its war," Kallas said.

• On 23 July, the Council of the European Union formally adopted a new package of sanctions against Russia, describing it as a measure that "deals a powerful blow to Russia's energy sector, financial services and cryptocurrencies."
