Ukrainian foreign minister thanks EU for new sanctions against Russia

Ukraine's acting Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has welcomed the new sanctions the European Union introduced in response to recent Russian aerial attacks on Ukrainian regions.

Details: Sybiha stressed that every act of Russian terror against the Ukrainian civilian population should have consequences.

He thanked Kaja Kallas, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, for her leadership.

Quote: "This is exactly what we discussed earlier this year: every act of terror must be met with resolute response. Further decisive actions are needed to stop Russia's access to critical components for the production of new ballistic missiles and to increase the cost of prolonging the war for Moscow."

• On 7 August, Kallas announced that the EU has approved new sanctions against Russia in response to the recent massive strikes on Ukraine.
• On 23 July, the Council of the European Union formally adopted a new package of sanctions against Russia, describing it as a measure that deals a powerful blow to Russia's energy sector, financial services and cryptocurrencies.
• The package was approved after weeks of delays caused by objections from several member states for different reasons, with Greece being the last country to lift its objections.
