Russian attacks killed 437 civilians in July, highest monthly toll since spring 2022 – UN
The UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine (HRMMU) has reported that at least 437 civilians were killed and another 2,610 injured in Russian attacks in July 2026. This is the highest monthly civilian death toll since May 2022.

Details: The report said the number of civilian casualties increased by 30% compared with June 2026 and by 70% compared with July 2025.
The number of children killed and injured also reached its highest level since April 2022. In July, 17 children were killed and another 166 injured.
Long-range weapons, including missiles and drones, remained the leading cause of civilian deaths and injuries, accounting for 38% of all civilian casualties. Most civilian casualties were recorded in cities far from the line of contact.
Civilian deaths and injuries caused by guided aerial bomb strikes increased by 143% compared with June, with 105 people killed and 753 injured. Such strikes became the second-largest cause of civilian casualties.
In addition, the number of people killed and injured by short-range drone attacks near the line of contact reached its highest monthly level since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Such attacks accounted for 27% of all civilian casualties, killing 111 people and injuring 710.
According to the UN, the highest numbers of civilian deaths and injuries were recorded in the city of Kyiv as well as Kherson, Zaporizhzhia and Sumy oblasts.
Attacks on vessels and port infrastructure in Odesa and Mykolaiv oblasts also intensified. At least 39 such attacks killed 19 people and injured 25.
Background:
- The deadliest months for civilians since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine remain March 2022, when 4,313 people were killed, followed by April with 842 and May with 589.
- According to data from the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, at least 293 civilians were killed and another 1,990 injured in Russian attacks in June 2026.
