Two women detained in Poland after attacking Ukrainians

Police in the Polish city of Poznan have detained two women on 14 August after they behaved aggressively towards Ukrainian nationals outside a restaurant.

Details: The two women appeared in a video that was circulated on social media. It shows them behaving aggressively towards Ukrainian nationals – shouting, spitting, throwing a street umbrella at them and hitting them.

According to police, the incident took place after midnight on 13 August and the women were probably intoxicated.

Law enforcement officers added that the video footage documenting the incident had greatly helped them identify the attackers.

• The number of attacks on Ukrainians in Poland has risen sharply in recent weeks. On 8 August, a 39-year-old man who had aggressively insulted two Ukrainian nationals in Kraków turned himself in at a police station, where he was detained.
• Several days ago, a man in Gdansk attacked a Ukrainian passer-by and two Polish citizens, whom he called "Banderites" .
• A group of Polish men recently attacked a young Ukrainian couple in Wrocław, reportedly upon hearing their accent. The perpetrators were remanded in custody for three months.
