Russia claims nearly 600 Ukrainian drones have been downed overnight

The Russian Defence Ministry has claimed that Russian air defences intercepted and destroyed 598 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones on the night of 14-15 August.

Details: The drones were allegedly downed over 17 oblasts of Russia, Moscow region, Krasnodar Krai, temporarily occupied Crimea and over the waters of the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea.

Specifically, the Russian side claimed that air defences were operating over Belgorod, Bryansk, Vladimir, Voronezh, Kaluga, Kursk, Leningrad, Lipetsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Novgorod, Oryol, Pskov, Rostov, Ryazan, Smolensk, Tver and Tula oblasts.

Background: Meanwhile, explosions and strikes were reported in the Russian city of Samara during an attack, with the Rocket and Space Centre Progress potentially among the targets.
