Moldovan president: some drones fly into Moldova because they were sent there
Moldovan President Maia Sandu believes that some drones enter her country's airspace accidentally, while others do so because they were sent there deliberately.

Quote from Sandu speaking to Teleradio Moldova on 17 August: "I believe that some of them [drones – ed.] get there accidentally, while others do so because they are sent there, and not only into our airspace but also into the airspace of other countries in the region. I have seen such cases in Romania and Poland as well. Looking at the flight trajectory of these drones, we can tell which ones were sent deliberately and which ones ended up there accidentally."
Details: Sandu added that in both cases, the drones violate the airspace and pose a danger to people. She said that Russia, which started the war, is the only party responsible for these incidents.
Meanwhile, the president believes that the possible expulsion of Oleg Ozerov, Russia's Ambassador to Moldova, will not stop unauthorised drone flights. She said that the notes of protest sent by Chișinău had also failed to change Russia's policy.
"The most important thing that can be done to stop these drones in the Republic of Moldova, in Ukraine and everywhere is to help Ukraine and ensure that Ukraine wins this war," Sandu said.
Background:
- On the evening of 10 August, a Russian drone once again violated Moldova's airspace, reportedly a jet-powered Shahed.
- On 9 August, a new type of device exploded in Moldova, one that had not previously fallen on the country's territory. Notifications from the Ukrainian Air Force indicated that Russia was carrying out a large-scale attack on Odesa Oblast at the time, including with Banderol munitions, which are described as a hybrid of a UAV and a missile.
- Following the incident, Moldova recalled its ambassador to Russia for consultations.
