Zelenskyy nominates Khmara as defence minister and Sybiha as foreign minister

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has submitted a nomination to parliament for Yevhenii Khmara to be appointed defence minister and Andrii Sybiha to be appointed foreign minister.

Details: Zhelezniak said the votes on the defence and foreign ministers are expected to take place on Wednesday 19 August.

He said earlier that MPs had been sent a schedule of meetings between factions and groups with the two candidates on Tuesday.

Herashchenko also confirmed that the nominations have been submitted. She added that meetings of the appropriate committees should take place before the vote in the session hall.

As of 16:20, however, the corresponding documents were not yet available on the Verkhovna Rada's official website.

Update: Stefanchuk officially confirmed that the nominations for Khmara and Sybiha have been submitted.

He noted that the Verkhovna Rada will consider the nominations "in the near future, in accordance with the Constitution of Ukraine and established parliamentary procedure".
