Overall, as of the end of August, Ukraine has 15 GW of generating capacity at its disposal. According to Shmyhal, this is expected to increase to 19.6 GW by 1 November and to 21.4 GW by the end of the year.

Meanwhile, Shmyhal clarified that these plans will remain viable provided that Russian forces do not destroy the restored generating capacity.

Nuclear power plants account for more than 40% of electricity generation in Ukraine, thermal power plants for around 20%, and hydropower for 15%.

Shmyhal said that the state has already repaired 4.8 GW of generating capacity, with another approximately 4 GW currently under repair.

Background: Energy workers restored electricity to 50,000 households in Kyiv following Russia's large-scale attack on the night of 19-20 August.
