He has been placed in pre-trial detention, with the option of release on bail of UAH 7 million (about US$156,500)."

Details: SAPO added that the question of appealing the pre-trial restrictions regarding the amount of bail will be decided once the full text of the court's ruling has been reviewed.

Background:

  • Recently, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and SAPO uncovered a scheme involving the seizure of real estate and other assets by participants in Operation Forrest Gump through interference with the Ministry of Justice's systems.
  • The same criminal group organised the laundering of funds to pay bail for former energy and justice minister Herman Halushchenko. They used state-owned Sense Bank for this purpose.
  • A SAPO prosecutor listed the people mentioned in the Forrest Gump and Themis cases. They include Iryna Mudra, former deputy head of the President's Office, former MP Maksym Mykytas and serving MP Vadym Stolar.
  • The High Anti-Corruption Court remanded Mykytas in custody with the option of release on UAH 30 million (US$670,880) bail.
