Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced that he has a candidate for the position of ambassador to the United States but did not reveal the person's identity.

Details: Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine's embassy in the US needs "an experienced person".

"There is a candidate (...) This is very important. Elections are taking place there right now. We need a communicator so that Ukraine is not forgotten. We need to be on television, meet with senators and engage with think tanks. We need to influence and talk. The person must have a deep understanding of many issues," he stressed.

Background:

On 3 August, Zelenskyy relieved Olha Stefanishyna of her post as Ukraine's ambassador to the United States.
Stefanishyna is suspected of illicit enrichment and inaccurate asset declarations.
On 6 August, the High Anti-Corruption Court set bail of UAH 6 million (approx. US$134,000) as a pre-trial restriction for Stefanishyna.
It was reported that Stefanishyna had requested the termination of her diplomatic service due to personal circumstances.
