Details: Macron said that by systematically targeting civilians and choosing intimidation and escalation, Russia was seeking to demonstrate strength, but was above all demonstrating an admission of its own weakness.
Quote: "In this context, it is critically important to provide Ukraine with all the means necessary to protect its skies and repel this aggression.
I informed President Zelenskyy of an increase in our support, including the delivery of interceptor missiles and the continuation of our cooperation following the outcomes of the inaugural meeting of the Anti-Ballistic Defence Coalition, held in Paris on 13 July last year, and the declaration of intent signed on 17 November 2025."
Details: Macron added that it was crucial for all countries with the relevant capabilities to join these efforts as well.
He also promised to continue increasing pressure on Russia until it ceased hostilities.
"Furthermore, in the context of the upcoming meeting of the Coalition of the Willing, which will take place this Monday, we reviewed our mobilisation to achieve the peace that the Ukrainian people legitimately seek – with respect for their rights and with all the security guarantees for Ukraine and our continent," Macron added.
Background:
- On 22 August, Zelenskyy said that his nearly two-hour conversation with Macron had focused on accelerating deliveries of the latest French equipment and missiles.
- On 24 August, Macron will co-chair a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing, which will take place in a hybrid format.
