Peskov said Russia views London's announcement of plans to provide Kyiv with secret data on British components for long-range missile production "extremely negatively".

The Kremlin spokesman claimed that the Russian military is already "carrying out the relevant work, obtaining the relevant data to identify the production sites of such missiles and other military equipment, and taking measures to destroy the relevant facilities".

Background:

  • UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham arrived in Kyiv on 24 August on his first overseas visit since taking office. He is expected to announce the handover to Kyiv of secret data on British components for the long-range Storm Shadow/SCALP missile "as Ukraine and France look to establish local assembly lines in Ukraine".
  • Burnham has also said the UK will support Ukraine "100%" against Russia and stand by its side "in its hour of need", despite threats from Moscow.
  • Earlier, Russia accused the UK of "deliberately opting for escalation" following media reports that British-made drones have been used in strikes on targets inside Russia.
