Details: Negrea stressed that the US is reiterating President Donald Trump's call for an immediate ceasefire and good-faith negotiations to end the war between Russia and Ukraine.
He noted that the death toll continues to rise after each new attack.
Quote: "We call on both sides to end any strikes that target or risk damaging civilian vessels. It is senseless to continue to spill blood of innocent civilians when there is no military solution to this war."
Details: Negrea called on Russia and Ukraine to "return to the negotiating table" and assured them that the US "will play whatever constructive role part it can to facilitate talks between Moscow and Kyiv to achieve this outcome".
Meanwhile, Negrea said that the US remains committed to Ukraine's future as a sovereign and prosperous state.
Background: Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said earlier that the UN Security Council would meet on Ukraine's Independence Day to discuss the consequences of Russia's war in Ukraine.
