Russians destroy remaining equipment at Kherson Combined Heat and Power Plant

Russian forces attacked the Kherson Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plant yet again, using guided aerial bombs to completely destroy and disable all the remaining heat- and power-generating equipment at the plant.

Details: The company reported that Russian forces attacked the Naftogaz Group's Kherson CHP again on the night of 26-27 August, striking the site with four guided aerial bombs at once.

The plant sustained critical damage. The strike completely destroyed and disabled all the heat- and power-generating equipment that remained at the plant.

"The Russians struck an exclusively civilian facility that supplies heat to a significant part of Kherson's residential buildings," said Serhii Fedorenko, acting CEO of Naftogaz.

More details: Fedorenko pointed out that this attack serves no military purpose whatsoever and that its sole aim is to terrorise the civilian population and attempt to deprive tens of thousands of Kherson residents of their source of heat ahead of the heating season.

• Earlier, Russian forces attacked the Kherson CHP – the city's main source of heating – with a guided aerial bomb, causing serious damage.
• Russia's constant attacks on energy infrastructure in Kherson Oblast have officially been classified as threatening an emergency situation, meaning any worsening of the current state could endanger human welfare. The same status has also been applied to the state of the heating supply in Kherson due to the risk of disruptions during the heating season.
• On 28 December, Russian forces again shelled the Kherson Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plant with artillery, causing significant damage. Russian forces attack the plant almost daily. The strikes have left between 10,000 and 12,000 people without heating.
