16-storey building catches fire during UAV attack on Kyiv, another drone falls near residential building

Russian UAVs attacked Kyiv during the day on 1 September, causing a fire in a 16-storey building in the Podilskyi district, while a drone reportedly fell near a residential building in the Sviatoshynskyi district.

Details: An air-raid warning was issued in the capital at 09:49.

While the alert was in effect, the Air Force reported a jet-powered UAV over Kyiv and urged residents to remain in shelters.

Quote from the Air Force: "Jet-powered UAV over Kyiv. Remain in shelters."

Details: Klitschko subsequently reported the impact of the attack on two districts of the capital.

He said a fire had broken out in a 16-storey building in the Podilskyi district, on the 13th and 14th floors.

In the Sviatoshynskyi district, early reports indicate that a UAV fell in an open area near a five-storey residential building.

Emergency services were dispatched to the sites.

The all-clear was given in Kyiv at 10:35.

Background: Russian forces struck a railway depot and other railway facilities in Kyiv with ballistic missiles on the night of 31 August-1 September, killing seven people, including six Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) employees, and injuring others.
