Head of Zelenskyy's office: Ceasefire proposal was delivered to Putin, but he did not respond

Ukraine has submitted a ceasefire proposal to Russia, which was delivered to Russian leader Vladimir Putin, but Moscow has not provided a response.

Details: Budanov said that the proposal had concerned not only a halt to strikes on Ukraine but also a cessation of fighting along the line of contact.

Details: Budanov also confirmed that US President Donald Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner will visit Ukraine on 6 September.

He noted that they are due to visit Russia first.

Budanov suggested that Russian forces might refrain from attacking Kyiv on 6 September because representatives of the US administration will be in the capital.

Background:

• According to Ukrainska Pravda, ahead of the visit by US President Donald Trump's special envoys, the Ukrainian authorities attempted to introduce a temporary ceasefire along the line of contact. Units from Ukraine's defence forces were ordered to observe a ceasefire from 00:00 on 5 September until 23:59 on 8 September. Russian forces prevented the plan from being implemented.
• The General Staff later said that fighting was continuing along the line of contact because the Russians had not stopped their aggression against Ukraine.
