EU Defence Commissioner Andrius Kubilius has said he agrees with Russian leader Vladimir Putin on the need to "eliminate the root causes of war" – provided this refers to the real root causes, namely the Kremlin's imperial ambitions.

Details: Kubilius noted that Putin had yet again claimed that the most important thing was to "eliminate the root causes" of the Russia-Ukraine war after meeting US President Donald Trump's envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in Moscow.

"The 'root causes of the war' are Putin himself, his decisions to occupy Crimea in 2014 & full-scale invasion in 2022. This is the first time when I agree with Putin: the real 'root causes' of the war should be removed!" Kubilius commented.
