Moldova rejects Russia's justification for strike on checkpoint on border with Ukraine

Chișinău has dismissed Russia's claims that the Tudora-Starokozache checkpoint on the border with Ukraine is allegedly being used for military logistics and was therefore targeted by Russian forces.

Details: Moldova rejected Moscow's explanation that the Tudora-Starokozache checkpoint on the border with Ukraine was targeted because it was allegedly being used to transit military cargo into Ukraine.

Quote from Moldova's Foreign Ministry: "This is a false and entirely unfounded claim. Weapons are not transported into Ukraine through the territory of the Republic of Moldova – not via the Tudora-Starokozache checkpoint, nor via any others. These crossing points are used by people – families, children with their mothers, elderly people travelling between countries.

Two civilians were killed in the attack, and several more were injured. Attempting to justify the killing of civilians with claims of 'weapons transport' is shameless and unacceptable. Moldova firmly condemns the attack and strongly denies attempts to justify it through lies and disinformation."

Background:

On the night of 8-9 September, Russian drones once again attacked border infrastructure on the border with Moldova, hitting the Starokozache-Tudora checkpoint – one of two key checkpoints on the Odesa section of the border between Ukraine and Moldova, near the Palanca checkpoint.
On the night of 5-6 September, the Orlivka checkpoint on the border with Romania suspended operations due to a Russian attack.
