One day of war in 2026 costs Ukraine's state budget US$190 million, excluding weapons provided by international partners.

Details: In 2024, one day of war cost Ukraine US$140 million.

Pidlasa said the main reason for the increase in the cost of the war is the expansion of the Armed Forces and, consequently, the greater number of military personnel and their families who receive state support.

Another reason is the need for more weapons, particularly medium- and long-range strike capabilities used to target Russian oil refineries.

Pidlasa said that national security and defence had cost almost US$42 billion over the first eight months of the year, excluding military assistance provided in kind. Meanwhile, Ukraine had raised only US$39 billion from its own resources, including revenues and domestic government bonds, meaning that the country was no longer able to cover even the share of expenditure that it had previously financed itself.

She added that the defence forces had also reported an additional funding requirement of US$27 billion by the end of the year.

Background: In early September, Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi announced that the government was introducing strict austerity measures for budget funds not earmarked for defence needs.
