US House of Representatives sets date for vote on sweeping Russia sanctions

The final vote on a bill that would significantly tighten sanctions against Russia will take place in the US House of Representatives on Wednesday 16 September.

Details: Republican Congressman Michael McCaul said he will personally oversee the debate on the bill immediately before the decisive vote on the House floor.

"Tomorrow, I will be managing the debate on the [House] floor for final passage of the Lindsey Graham sanctions bill," McCaul said.

After procedural hurdles were cleared, Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal, co-author of the bill, addressed the Ukrainian community. He reaffirmed his unwavering support for Ukraine and stressed that the bill could "scorch" Vladimir Putin's war machine.

"We will not rest until Ukraine is secure as a free nation," Blumenthal said.

"The only way to stop bullies is to push them back and punch them in the face," he stressed.
