Ukraine sees energy and Black Sea ceasefire as possible key outcome of Zelenskyy-Trump meeting in New York

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has said at a joint event with Slovenian Foreign Minister Tone Kajzer that a key outcome of a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump in New York could be an agreement on energy and maritime ceasefires in the Russia-Ukraine war.

Quote: "We welcome the efforts of our partners, the efforts of the United States, to make this happen, and we believe that with the active involvement of the US in particular, this can realistically be achieved. We are preparing for a meeting between President Zelenskyy and President Trump on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, and I believe that this could be one of the main outcomes of this meeting – reaching a ceasefire."

Details: Sybiha said this could involve both a ceasefire on attacks against energy infrastructure and a ceasefire in the Black Sea.

The minister stressed that Ukraine wants to end the war.

"We have proposals, we have a vision of how to get there. We need the support of the world, and [we need] to abandon any illusions about Russia's good intentions. Russia understands only pressure," the foreign minister said.
