Acting prosecutor general reveals his working plans "for the coming days"
Acting prosecutor general Anton Kovalskyi has said what he plans to focus on in his first days in the role, and promised to engage with the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) "professionally and within the law".

Quote: "Yesterday [17 September – ed.], I was entrusted with performing the duties of prosecutor general. I am taking up this work during a difficult period for the Prosecutor's Office, and I fully understand the responsibility I am now taking on. The first thing I want to note is this: the work of the Prosecutor's Office is uninterrupted."
Details: Kovalskyi named organising the work of the Prosecutor General's Office and oblast prosecutor's offices, and ensuring the results of that work, as his top priority.
Quote: "I have identified several specific steps for the coming days. I will hold working meetings with the heads of key areas at the Office and regional prosecutor's offices. We need to go through problem areas, high-profile cases, and personnel matters and decisions that cannot be delayed in a substantive way."
More details: Kovalskyi also plans to complete disciplinary and personnel procedures already under way against Prosecutor General's Office employees, in connection with "circumstances currently being examined as part of the Carthage operation".
Quote: "We will not accuse anyone before guilt is established through the procedure set out in law. But the position of prosecutor also cannot be a reason to protect someone or create special conditions for them."
More details: Kovalskyi promises to engage with NABU and SAPO "professionally and within the law".

Background: On 17 September, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy issued a decree appointing Anton Kovalskyi, Head of Khmelnytskyi Oblast Prosecutor's Office, as acting prosecutor general.
