Russian man swims from Kaliningrad Oblast to Lithuania to seek asylum

A 68-year-old Russian citizen swam across the Neman River from Russia's Kaliningrad Oblast to Lithuania to seek asylum, but Lithuanian border guards decided to send him back to Russia after checking his circumstances.

Details: Lithuania's State Border Guard Service said the man was found on the riverbank on the afternoon of 17 September. He was given dry clothes after crossing the Neman.

"More details about his journey, such as the exact distance covered, the route or how long he was in the water, cannot currently be provided," the border guards said.
