The US Senate has voted in favour of a bill enabling sanctions to be imposed on Russia and Iran. US President Donald Trump has indicated he is prepared to sign the bill, which was co-sponsored by the late Senator Lindsey Graham.

Details: After debating the "Graham bill" and considering a number of amendments, the senators put the legislation to a final vote, approving it by 86 votes to 11.

Earlier, senators rejected a potentially fatal amendment proposed by Rand Paul that could have derailed the bill. The amendment was defeated by 64 votes to 32.
