Moscow Oil Refinery supplying 40% of city's fuel catches fire after drone attack

The Moscow Oil Refinery in the Kapotnya district has caught fire after a drone attack. A strike reportedly hit the AVT-6 unit.

Details: Monitoring Telegram channels reported that photos and videos circulating on the night of 19-20 September showed a major fire at the refinery. Early assessments indicate that the ELOU-AVT-6 unit may have been hit.

The Moscow Oil Refinery is one of Russia's largest oil refining facilities, located in Moscow's Kapotnya district. It has a refining capacity of 11 million tonnes of oil per year. The refinery supplies about 40% of Moscow's fuel market and 70% of the Moscow region's demand for petrol and aviation gas.

Background: A large-scale drone attack was reported over Moscow and Moscow Oblast. A major fire apparently broke out at the Sofyino logistics technopark and the oil refinery in Kapotnya.
