Moldovan President Sandu says drone exploded in Moldova during Russian attack on Ukraine

Moldovan President Maia Sandu has commented on a Russian attack on Ukrainian oblasts during which drones entered Moldovan airspace several times.

Details: Sandu said that on the morning of 24 September, four Russian drones violated Moldova's airspace, and that "at least one exploded in the north".

Background:

• Russia carried out another large-scale attack on Ukrainian territory on the night of 23-24 September. Russia struck Kyiv with ballistic missiles: two people are known to have been killed and eight people have been injured.
• On the night of 23-24 September, fighter jets were scrambled in Romania due to drone activity near the Ukrainian-Romanian border. It was reported later that a drone had crashed in Suceava County, Romania, prompting local authorities to suspend classes at schools in four settlements in the area.
• Poland also scrambled military aircraft in response to the Russian attack on Ukraine.
