Kyiv and other cities report problems with cable TV and Ukrainian streaming services
Television signals have begun to disappear in Kyiv and several other Ukrainian cities, while streaming services Megogo and Sweet.tv and some cable operators are also experiencing disruptions.
Details: Suspilne reports that amid Russian strikes on Ukrainian data centres, signals from several TV channels have begun disappearing in Kyiv and a number of other Ukrainian cities. These include STB, 1+1 and Channel 5. Users are also experiencing problems watching content via Megogo and Sweet.tv streaming services. Subscribers to some cable operators are experiencing disruptions as well.
Meanwhile, some TV channels continue to operate as usual.
Dev.ua, citing Megogo's customer support service, reports that the viewing problems were caused by a Russian strike on a data centre belonging to the service's main partner.
Megogo also said that due to "physical damage to the source-feed infrastructure", it is currently unable to transmit the stream to users' screens. Engineers are working to restore the signal.
Background:
- On 23 September, a Russian attack damaged a data centre in Kyiv housing key equipment belonging to internet service provider Utels. The attack also caused disruptions to the Fex.net cloud service.
- On the same day, around 100,000 households in Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast experienced internet disruptions as a result of a Russian attack.
- On 24 September, following a Russian attack on Kyiv, internet service providers Domonet, Kievnet and Faust reported damage to infrastructure and internet disruptions.
- On the same day, Russia destroyed a data centre hosting infrastructure belonging to hosting provider MiroHost. The company is currently unable to say when its services will be restored.
- On 25 September, a data centre belonging to Datagroup was damaged in a Russian attack.
- Zelenskyy said that during a meeting of the Staff of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, decisions had been taken on protecting data centres and other facilities critical to communications.
