Russians strike head office of Ukraine's mobile telecommunications operator

Russia damaged the head office building of the Kyivstar company, Ukraine's mobile telecommunications operator, during a drone attack on 27 September.

Background:

• On 17 September, Russian forces struck a building housing equipment belonging to Kyivstar in Kyiv Oblast. No one was injured.
• A Russian attack on 23 September damaged one of Kyiv's data centres housing the core equipment of the Utels internet service provider.
• The attack also caused disruptions to the Fex.net cloud service.
• On 24 September, following a Russian attack on Kyiv data centres, Domonet, Kievnet and Faust internet providers reported infrastructure damage and internet disruptions.
• On the same day, a data centre housing infrastructure belonging to hosting provider MiroHost was destroyed in a Russian attack, leaving the company unable to say when operations will be restored.
• On 25 September, a data centre operated by Datagroup was damaged in another Russian attack.
• Ukrainian TV channel Novyny.LIVE temporarily suspended broadcasts because of disruptions affecting some of its services following a Russian attack on infrastructure in Kyiv.
• Armiia TV channel, a Ukrainian state-owned military television channel, suspended its operations due to Russian attacks on data centres.
• During a meeting of the Staff of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, decisions were taken to protect data centres and other critical communications infrastructure, Zelenskyy noted.
