Kazakh president again calls on Putin to freeze war in Ukraine after talks in Germany

Kazakh President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev has again called on Russian ruler Vladimir Putin to "freeze" the war in Ukraine and move towards "diplomacy and negotiations".

Quote: "We insist that every country should preserve its territorial integrity... I was not talking about the war ending as quickly as possible. Yes, I understand that in current conditions this is somewhat unrealistic. I was talking about freezing hostilities and then moving towards diplomacy and negotiations."

Background:

• In July, during a meeting with Putin in Omsk, Toqayev said he did not understand the reason for Russia's aggression against Ukraine, adding that "the conflict should be frozen based on the Istanbul agreements".
• Putin responded by promising to provide detailed information to the Kazakh president about the "Ukrainian direction", and the following day said that Russia's war against Ukraine would "sooner or later, certainly come to an end".
