Ukrainian military video shows reload vehicle for Russian Buk-M3 anti-aircraft system being destroyed by drones for first time

The Ukrainian military have used drones to destroy a Russian transport-loading vehicle for the Buk-M3 anti-aircraft missile system. The Third Separate Assault Brigade reported the strike.

Details: The brigade said the drones attacked a vehicle that was intended to reload the Buk T9243M. The strike was carried out by attack drone operators from the SkyFOM platoon in the area of responsibility of the 3rd Army Corps.

The vehicle was destroyed as it was transporting a batch of anti-aircraft guided missiles to reload the Buk-M3.

Quote from the 3rd Assault Brigade: "This is the only confirmed destruction of equipment of this modification."

The brigade did not specify the type of drones used for the strike, but the video of the attack shows Hornet drones being launched. In the footage posted by the unit, the reload vehicle was completely destroyed.

Background:

  • The Buk-M3 anti-aircraft missile system was adopted by the Russians in 2016. It is capable of hitting fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, cruise and ballistic missiles and drones at a distance of up to 80 km and an altitude of up to 35,000 metres.
  • One Buk-M3 system is estimated to cost US$40-50 million.
  • Ukrainska Pravda reported in July that Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces had struck a Buk-M3 near Snizhne in Donetsk Oblast.
