Emergency power cuts may be applied in certain Ukrainian oblasts following Russian strikes on energy infrastructure if the situation in the power system deteriorates.

Details: Hourly power cuts ranging from 0.5 to 1.5 and capacity restrictions for industry and business are currently in effect in some regions.

Background:

  • On the night of 6-7 October, the Russians launched a massive attack on Ukraine using various air attack weapons. According to the Air Force, air defence brought down 161 aerial assets.
  • An air-raid warning was issued in Kyiv and most Ukrainian regions due to the threat of strikes by ballistic weapons. Explosions were heard in Kyiv and Dnipro.
  • Some consumers in Vinnytsia, Kharkiv, Kherson, Poltava and Chernihiv oblasts have been left without electricity following the massive Russian attack, which hit energy infrastructure in some areas.
