Massive Russian attack on 7 October: 161 aerial assets brought down, hits at 18 locations

The Russians launched a massive attack on Ukraine using various aerial weapons on the night of 6-7 October. The Ukrainian Air Force has said air defence has brought down 161 Russian aerial assets.

Details: Since 18:00 on 6 October, the Russians have attacked Ukraine with:
- Zircon/Oniks anti-ship missiles from Russia's Rostov Oblast
- Iskander-M/S-400/KN-23 ballistic missiles from Bryansk and Voronezh oblasts, Russia
- Forty-eight air-, land- and sea-based Kh-101, Iskander-K and Kalibr cruise missiles from Russia's Vologda and Kursk oblasts and the Caspian Sea respectively
- A total of 130 Shahed-type attack drones (46 jet-powered), Gerbera UAVs and Parodiya-type decoy drones from the following areas: Oryol and Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Russia, and occupied Donetsk and Hvardiiske in occupied Crimea.
The Russian strikes are mainly targeting Kyiv, Kharkiv, Poltava and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts.
The aerial attack is being repelled by aircraft, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare assets, unmanned systems units and mobile fire groups from Ukraine's defence forces.
Early reports indicate that as of 09:00, air defence had intercepted 161 assets:
- Five Iskander-M/KN-23/S-400 ballistic missiles and Zircon/Oniks anti-ship missiles
- Thirty-nine Kh-101, Iskander-K and Kalibr cruise missiles (information is being gathered regarding a further six cruise missiles)
- 117 Shahed-type loitering munitions (38 jet-powered), Gerbera UAVs and drones of other types.
Strikes by Russian missiles and attack UAVs have been recorded at 18 locations and the fall of intercepted weapons (debris) at five locations.
