Turkish president's office speaks on his call with Putin regarding safety in the Black Sea

Turkish President Recep Erdoğan, during a telephone conversation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, has emphasised the importance of efforts for navigation safety in the Black Sea and declared readiness to facilitate direct contacts between Ukraine and Russia.

Details: Turkish president's office said that during the call, Erdoğan and Putin "discussed bilateral relations" between the countries and regional and global issues.
During the conversation, Erdoğan "emphasised the importance of efforts aimed at securing navigation in the Black Sea".
It was also noted that he said Türkiye is "always ready to contribute to efforts aimed at establishing direct contacts between Russia and Ukraine".
Background:
- As reported by European Pravda, on 6 October, in the exclusive economic zone of Bulgaria in the Black Sea, drones attacked two commercial vessels – Alfa Watan, flying the flag of Togo, and Able, flying the flag of Palau.
- This is the second such incident in two days: on 5 October, a vessel carrying grain from Ukraine to Italy was hit by drones off the Romanian coast in the Black Sea. Two crew members were killed and 11 others rescued.
- President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the Ukrainian Navy contacted its Bulgarian counterparts regarding an attack on two civilian vessels in Bulgarian waters. Zelenskyy stated that the attack was carried out by Russia.
- The European Union considers Russia's recent attacks on commercial vessels in the Black Sea unacceptable and will transfer satellite imagery of the specified maritime areas to Romania and Bulgaria upon their request.
