Ukrainian petrol stations fortified with sand and concrete to keep operating amid Russian attacks

Ukrnafta, Ukraine's largest state-owned oil and gas company, is installing sand-filled protective barriers at its petrol stations in Kyiv and says it has secured enough fuel supplies for the winter even if demand rises by an expected 10-15%.

Details: To protect its stations in the capital, the company has installed gabions – metal structures filled with sand. It plans to install them in other cities soon. Ukrainian fuel retailers are increasingly equipping petrol stations with protective barriers and concrete shelters.
Russian strikes have damaged at least six Ukrnafta petrol stations in Kyiv in recent weeks. Zharska said some stations have been able to resume operations within a few days of being attacked.
The company has already equipped its petrol stations with generators and secured supplies of sufficient volumes of imported fuel to prevent supply disruptions, Zharska said.
During air raids, petrol stations suspend operations and customers are asked to leave the premises, while staff head to shelters.
Background: Russian forces attacked one of Ukrnafta's petrol station complexes in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast twice. No casualties were reported.
