Russian leader Vladimir Putin has confirmed that Russia is ready to supply oil and petroleum products to the US and global markets following his conversation with US President Donald Trump on 9 October.

Details: Putin said this will "have a positive impact on the global economy as a whole".

Quote: "An agreement has been confirmed to continue personal contacts between the presidents of the two countries, as well as cooperation between their administrations, intelligence services and other government agencies." [N.B. Ukrainska Pravda does not recognise Putin as president – ed.]

Details: Putin also discussed with Trump what the Kremlin called the "settlement of the Ukrainian crisis" – as the Russian-Ukrainian war is referred to in Russia – and the situation surrounding Iran.

Background:

  • On 9 October, Trump said he had spoken to Putin and agreed on supplies of diesel fuel from Russia.
  • Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that allowing Russia to sell petroleum products to the US and other countries amounts to an investment in the war.
  • The US Department of the Treasury, through its Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), issued General Licence No. 135, authorising transactions involving the sale, delivery, unloading and import of Russian-origin diesel fuel.
